Home INTRODUCTION The FOUNDATION MUSIC SCHOOL CAPELLA AMADEUS EDUCATIONAL TOURS ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE JOIN US

Capella Amadeus is the only music institution in Indonesia that conducts a program of visiting regions outside Java every year in order to acquaint the local public with classical music through performances and workshops.

“Music is the voice of all humanity, of whatever
time or place. In its presence we are one.”

EDUCATIONAL CONCERT TOURS

Acutely aware of the sparseness of audiences appreciative of classical music, Capella Amadeus has embarked on a new program which leads the group into environments where classical music is scarcely known.
In 1997, Ms. Sudargo decided to venture into the outer regions of Indonesia, i.e. outside the island of Java where most classical music events, by Indonesian as well as foreign artists, are held.
This step presents two advantages: expanding an audience for classical music
and giving the young members of the group a taste of the professional aspects of music.

Radisson, Bali (1998) encourage the
foundation to continue this program.

“I always loved music; whoso has skill in this art
is of a good temperament, fitted for all things.
We must teach music in school;
a schoolmaster ought to have skill in music,
or I would not regard him;
neither should we ordain young men as preachers
unless they have been well exercised in music.”

As luck would have it, one orchestra member (from Austria) also happened to be a choirmaster, thus workshops were held for instruments as well as choir.

The first tour to Medan (1997) was regarded more as an effort “to test the waters”, and Capella Amadeus only gave one concert that was attended by some 400 people - which even by Jakarta standards is a capacity audience.
Believing however that “something must be left behind” Ms. Sudargo has determined that concerts, valuable as they are, should not be the only activity of Capella Amadeus on such tours.

An equally important part of the tours are such events as workshops, demonstrations, teaching sessions for local artists, etc., in which all members of the group play a role.
Results of the second tour to Bali even exceeded many expectations .
The enthusiasm shown for the performance and such an interactive programs as workshops,
indicates that there may well be an extremely high appreciation if not thirst in the regions for such activities.
